Coffeehouse Reading

Monday, 2 November 2026, 6:00 PM – The Vast Landscape of the Soul

Most literature lovers are familiar with Arthur Schnitzler’s profound metaphor of the “vast landscape of the soul”. Almost everyone cherishes Joseph von Eichendorff’s beautiful imagery of the soul spreading its wings to recall its homeland.

For this year’s reading at Café Bazar, Salzburg-based authors have reflected on the theme of the “soul” in response to an open call, crafting stories and shaping verses. After all, the soul is something wondrous – intangible, yet present everywhere, however one chooses to define it. Without the many facets of the soul, our lives would be mundane and true art would not exist. Visitors can therefore look forward to a diverse and multifaceted collection of literary works.

On All Souls’ Day, the following authors will read at Café Bazar: Michael Burgholzer, Margarita Fuchs, Katalin Jesch, Barbara Keller, Ingeborg Kraschl, Christa Stierl, Gudrun Winklhofer and Elisabeth Wukits. Their contributions were selected anonymously by a jury.

The event will open with a reading by Walter Müller, Café Bazar’s poetic host, who also has profound insights to share through his work as a funeral celebrant. In addition, Claudia Storz will present personal recollections, including memories of Christine Haidegger.

The readings will be accompanied by live music performed by Trio Exquisit, featuring Zsuzsanna Kiss, Thomas Müller and Peter Reutterer.
